How to test the accuracy of a Digital Thermometer

This is something you should do first thing when you get a new digital thermometer

Either: Crush some ice throw it in a bowl and add water

Or: Put some water in a pot and start it boiling

Your thermometer should read 32 °F or 0 °C if you put the probe in the iced water

My thermometer runs two degrees hot.

Or your thermometer should read 212 °F or 100 °C if you have dipped the probe into boiling water. As you can see my thermometer runs two degrees hot.
